Woonwooring Kelpies was started around the mid 1980s by Steve and Sue Donovan in Cunderdin, Western Australia.
Steve has always had an interest in training stock; whether dogs or horses and out of a hobby our business grew. Over the years, Steve has developed his training methods to suit the bloodlines we're using, letting the dogs natural ability come through. Trialing many different bloodlines including Sherwood, Elfinvale, Capree and Avenpart; breeding to achieve good all-round working dogs with excellent temperaments. We want our kelpies to become a valued employee as well as one of the family.
We exhibit at local shows such as Wagin Woolorama, Dowerin Field Days and Newdegate Field Days, where we give sheepdog demonstrations and advice for farmers wanting to work their stock in a a calmer manner. These shows are a great way to see our dogs in action and understand how they should be worked to maximum potential. The dogs, of course, love it too!
Our kelpies have been sold Australia and Worldwide, working a variety of stock; from sheep, cattle, pigs, goats and chooks to reindeer and often competing in agility trials in the city. They are not only great working dogs, but fantastic companions.
